TP Chandrasekharan murder: CPM man among 5 held
Police arrested five persons on Tuesday including an area committee member of the CPM in connection with the murder of RMP leader T.P. Chandrasekharan at Vallikkadu near Onchium on May 4.
Those arrested were Kunnummal Deepu alias Dipin, 21, a native of Azhiyur, Lambu Pradeep alias Pradeepan, 31, native of Marankunnummal, Chokli, Anandamveettil Rejith, 23, a native of Kodiyeri, Kuttu alias Ramish, 21, native of Kallarott, Azhiyur and CPM Orkkattery local committee member Padayankandi Raveendran, 47.
Kunnummakkara local committee member of CPM, K.C. Ramachandran who allegedly colluded with the assassins in the murder, also is under interrogation.
He allegedly assisted the assassins to hire the vehicle and handed over Rs 38,000 for the purpose, police said.
There were three earlier attempts on the life of TPC and it was the fourth one that proved successful. The last futile one was on May 2, police officials said.
It was Lambu Pradeep who helped the assassins to hide the swords in a well in Chokli, whereas another accused Remish escorted the team, also in a futile attempt on May 2. But the planning that day failed as TPC changed his schedule.
Deepu alias Dipin participated in the operation on the fatal day and returned with the team after the successful completion of the murder.
Deepu also helped the team by coordinating the movements on the spot with the help of Padayankandi Raveendran who also helped in identifying Chandrasekharan.
Police recovered the long knives and swords used by the assassins from a well near Chokli on Tuesday.
