TP Chandrasekharan murder discredited govt: Chandy

Eighteen days after the gruesome killing of T.P. Chandrasekharan, the chief minister Oommen Chandy, recalls his last meeting with the slain leader , who told him how killer gangs operated, with a horrific strike rate.

“The shocking fact is Chandrasekharan was murdered just the way he had foreseen it”, Chandy told DC on Tuesday.

Chandy admitted that the murder had discredited him and his government. Chandrasekharan, the CM said, had met him to complain about the violent situation in Onchiyam, especially the attack on his co-worker Balan. “One of the accused in the Balan case is an accused in Chandrasekharan’s murder too.”

Chandrasekharan did not have issues about his security but one thing he spoke about continues to haunt the CM. “He told me the ways in which these gangs operated.

They came from places like Thalassery and Mahe. No one, not even the local party workers, will have any clue. They roam the area for a week or ten days, identify houses of victims and understand their routine.

Once the crime is committed, they leave as stealthy as they came in,” said Chandy. “I guarantee that all those involved in the murder will be exposed.” he said.

“It is not them alone who will be exposed. Me and my government, too, stand discredited by this savage murder”, rued the CM. However, he pointed the finger of suspicion at the CPI (M).

“Is it not guilt that made Marxist leaders in the area flee their homes,” he asked. “And, why do CPI (M) men caught by the police cover their faces.

If they were innocent, they should be holding their heads high. This desperation to cover their faces betrays their guilt,” Chandy said.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
