TP Chandrasekharan murder: Left-hand killer held

The Special Investigation Team probing the T.P. Chandrasekharan murder arrested one more member of the suspected murder squad, Chendayad Kalluvalappil M.C. Anoop, 37, a native of Panoor, on Monday.

SIT nabbed Anoop from his hideout at Bengaluru on Monday, tracing the leads received from T.K. Rejeesh, another prime accused and Sijith alias Annan.

Anoop was under interrogation of SIT for many hours, and was likely to be produced before a court on Tuesday. Among the seven-member killer squad, four others including Kodi Suni are still evading the police net.

A left-hander, Anoop was also involved in the murder of a BJP worker, Rajesh, and in setting fire a textiles shop, both at Panoor. Experts who examined the body of Chandrasekharan had suspected the involvement of a left-hander in the murder.

Staying in a hotel with Rejeesh after the murder, Anoop escaped to Karnataka and later to Maharashtra, before returning to Bengaluru.

Police also recovered partially-burned remnants of clothes, suspected to be used by the assassins from Marankandi near Chokli on Monday. Anoop will be produced at the first class judicial magistrate’s court after a medical test on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the identification parade of Rejeesh, a prime accused, was held at the District Jail here on Monday. The parade, which lasted 15 minutes, was held in the presence of First Class Magistrate, P.T. Prakashan.

In the parade that commenced by 2.45 pm, 13 people apart from Rejeesh were assembled. Two witnesses, Prabeesh and Ramachandran, were brought to jail for the parade.

The result of the identification parade was sealed and sent to Vadakara Chief Judicial Magistrate. Rajeesh has been remanded to judicial custody till June 22.

CPM Panoor area committee member K.P. Kunhananthan, the alleged mastermind of the TPC murder, has moved anticipatory bail application at the session’s court, Thalassery, on Monday.
