Trader ends life for ` 10cr insurance
A meticulously planned “murder” to save the sinking fortune of his debt-ridden family was unmasked by Delhi police on Saturday, who arrested two persons and cracked what has turned out to be a suicide of a Delhi-based businessman.
The police has arrested Vinay Sinha, 31, and Sunil Kumar Lakra, 32, for robbing the car and valuables of the deceased trader Ajay Gupta, a resident of Adarsh Nagar. Gupta was found dead in a drain in Khayala and the police initially suspected it to be a case of murder.
However, during investigation, it came to light that Gupta was under debt and his house, office and godown were mortgaged.
“Gupta committed suicide to claim an insurance cover of `10 crores to help his family settle outstanding loans. He left his office on November 30 but did not reach home. His body was recovered from a drain in Khayala but his Honda City car was missing,” a senior police official said.
“His call records revealed that on November 30, he had asked a friend to call him and later he called the police claiming that he was getting threats. He had carried out a contract work in Jaipur and Kota but his payment was withheld by an executive engineer who demanded bribe for releasing the payment.

New Delhi, Dec. 11: Chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Saturday laid the foundation of a 220 KV electricity sub-station in Rohini. In her address on the occasion, she claimed that the national capital is now rated among the best cities in the world.
“In the last few years the entire look of the city has changed. Delhi is now counted in the category of one of the best cities in the world,” she said. While appreciating the power companies for enhancing distribution network, Ms Dikshit said power sector has shown significant improvement in the last few years.
