Traffic penalty to be hiked
Hyderabad: Though the Cyberabad police recently started implementing the government’s old order on enhancement of fines for traffic violations, the Hyderabad city traffic police is yet to follow suit.
Traffic officials said the rules would be implemented in a few days after a few technical issues are resolved. They didn’t elaborate further. The Cybera-bad police raised the fine amounts for traffic violations like talking on the cellphone while driving, signal jumping, wrong and dangerous parking.
Penalties have been raised to Rs 1,000 according to the GO MS 108 issued in 2011. The Cyberabad traffic police has been implementing these rules in its jurisdiction since the last few days, but the Hyderabad cops are yet to begin.
G. Sudheer Babu, deputy commissioner of police (traffic), Hyderabad, said, “We will also implement the GO in a few days after some issues are resolved.” Incidentally, the traffic cops themselves had asked the government to revise the fines in the city as the existing fine amounts were thought to be too low to restrict violations as the violators were not really feeling the pinch.
