Tragic end for airhostess at a theme park
An airhostess of Kingfisher Airlines died after she was flung out of an octopus ride and fell crashing through the metal frames of the merry go round at a theme park on the Chennai–Bengaluru highway, near Poonamallee, on Tuesday.
Afia Magh, 20, a native of Kohima, Nagaland, had gone to EVP World, a theme park in Chembarambakkam, along with her friends, where the mishap occurred around 11 am. Afia, residing in Kothari Nagar in Ramavaram, Chennai, planned the outing as the company declared a lockout from Tuesday.
“It seems the safety belt was not fastened properly. Otherwise, it is very difficult to fall like this. The ‘hands’ of the octopus move randomly, maximum at a height of 20 feet in different directions and most of her friends saw her only after she hit the ground bleeding from the head,” the police said after the first round of investigation.
Though she was taken to a private hospital nearby, she died without responding to treatment. Her body was taken to Kilpauk medical college for post-mortem.
The Nazratpet police on Tuesday evening said they arrested P. Raghu, 37, manger (in-charge), K Williams, 22, operator of the octopus ride, and his assistant V. Vasu, 20, for negligence.
The park had a non-fatal accident when a woman techie was thrown out of a ‘cup and saucer’ ride in April this year.
