Train catches fire in K’taka, 2 killed
Two were charred two death and six others were injured when a passenger train caught fire at the railway station here on Tuesday afternoon.
The identities of the deceased were not immediately known as the bodies were charred beyond recognition, but one of the victims is a child. Till Tuesday evening, no one had come forward to claim the bodies. The injured include Gopal Guttedar, 62, his wife Chandamma, 58, and grandson Santosh, 3, all from Badola village in Akkalkot taluk of Maharashtra, Naseema Begum, 35, her daughter Rubeja Butal, 6, and son Mohammed Ghouse, 5.
According to railway authorities, the Sholapur-bound Hyderabad-Sholapur Falaknuma passenger train arrived here at 1.05 pm.
After most of the passengers alighted from the train, a fire broke out in Coach 6. There were only a few passengers in the train at that time, which was scheduled to depart for Sholapur at 4 pm.
Soon, the fire engulfed the entire coach and spread to the adjacent coach 7, which was partially damaged.
