Trains on hold due to threat
Train services in the Kharagpur-Tata section were withdrawn on Wednesday after an alert was issued by the railway police that the Maoists are planning to carry out an explosion on the railway tracks in front of either Rajdhani Express or Duranto Express.
“We received an input at around 5 pm that some unidentified men have gathered near Jamui and Bhadui villages in Jamboni area. They were reportedly carrying landmines and were planning some subversive activity in front of Rajdhani or Duranto Express,” said Additional Director General of Police (railways) Dilip Mitra. Since the Rajdhani Express had already crossed in the morning, the railway officials restricted the movement of the Howrah-bound Duranto Express at Ghatshila. “From the Ghatshila station, the Duranto train was sent to Jamshedpur. I have ensured that the passengers will have no problems. Arrangements of food, water and medicines have been made,” Mr Mitra added. On the other hand, the UP Steel Express heading for Tatanagar, was stalled at Kalaikunda at 7.45 pm. It was diverted to Kharagpur.
Official spokesperson of south-eastern railways informed that all the train movement, even that of the goods train, had been suspended in that section.
