Transfer of SP triggers protests in Jaisalmer
The transfer of Jaisalmer SP Pankaj Chaudhary triggered strong resentment among the people while the border town witnessed a dawn-to-dusk bandh on Sunday.
The residents took to the streets and protested against the transfer of Mr Chaudhary as the protesters linked it to the reopening of the history sheet of Gazi Fakir.
The protesters said it has resemblance with case of suspended IAS Durga Shakti Nagpal because the IPS was shunted out when he took action against influential people.
The aged Gazi Fakir’s son Saleh Mohammed is a leader of ruling Congress party and represents the Pokhran seat in Rajasthan Assembly.
The Congress legislator is said to be angry with the Jaisalmer SP following the reopening of the history sheet against his father, but the SP said the district police initiated reopening of the history sheet when the police headquarters issued a general direction to review the history sheets.
The state government had transferred more than three dozen IPS officers on Friday, including the shifting of Mr Chaudhary. The IPS Chaudhary has been placed at a non-field posting.
IPS Chaudhary told media persons that he will follow the government orders.
