Trawler with 100 on board capsizes in WB

Kolkata: A trawler with over 100 people on board capsized in the Buriganga river near Sagar Islands in South 24 Parganas district on Saturday.

Three trawlers were sailing to Kakdwip when one of them capsized between Rosulpur and Ghoramara. The trawlers were sailing from Hijli Sarif under Khejuri police station in East Midnapore district to Kakdwip in South 24 Parganas, Kakdwip SDPO, Mr Sanjit Bhattacharya, said.

"The spot is about three hours journey into the sea from Kakdwip. The Coast Guard is coming from Haldia for the rescue operation," Mr Bhattacharya said.

ADG (Law and Order) Surojit Kar Purokayastha said the number of missing was yet to be ascertained.
