Trinamul, Cong ties worsen

Trinamul Congress on Thursday went on an offensive and launched a belligerent attack against the Congress.
Angered by the Congress agitation against her government’s failure to provide the support price of paddy to farmers, Trinamul Congress chief Mamata Banerjee fielded three powerful party leaders and ministers Partha Chatterjee, Firhad Hakim and Madan Mitra to give a fitting reply to the Congress.
“When we are working for the development of the state, CPI(M) and Congress are jointly trying to derail our efforts,” Mr Chatterjee said. He criticised the Congress minister in the state Manas Bhunia for attacking the state government from his party rally on Wednesday. “How can he be a part of the government and speak against it in public on the streets ?” he asked.
Endorsing other party leaders Mr Mitra and Mr Hakim’s challenge that the Congress ministers in the state should resign and contest again without carrying Ms Banerjee’s photograph, Mr Chatterjee said: “They will lose their deposit.”
Reacting sharply to the Trinamul Congress barbs, state Congress spokesperson Om Prakash Mishra said: “This is unfair. Did the Trinamul Congress leaders not use Sonia Gandhi’s pictures during the election campaign. Did they not get the Congress vote?”
He even reminded the Trinamul Congress that it was reduced to just one MP in 2004 and in 2009 its tally went up to 19 because it tied up with the Congress.
The relations between the two allies have soured to such an extent that the two indulged in mud-slinging even on the Raiganj University College incident. On the backfoot for its involvement in the beating up of the principal of the college, Trinamul Congress leader Mr Hakim accused Congress MP Deepa Dasmunshi for the incident.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
