Trinamul for Sonia role to curb CPM ‘terror’
Trinamul Congress (TMC) MPs on Wednesday met Congress president Sonia Gandhi and sought her intervention in curbing “CPI(M)-led terror” in West Bengal.
Interacting with reporters after the meeting senior TMC leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay said, “We kept her informed about the state of affairs in West Bengal.” The TMC chief and railway minister Mamata Banerjee, however, was not present at the meeting, which lasted for about 15 minutes.
“We apprised her of the CPI(M)-led terror being unleashed in the state. We submitted a six-volume report containing details of violence including the number of our workers being killed till date,” Mr Bandyopadhyay said. Trinamul, which has 19 MPs in the LS, is the second largest constituent of the UPA after Congress. “We drew her attention to the recent statement of CM Buddhadeb where he had said that people have to choose between Left and death,” Mr Bandyopadhayay said adding that they also sought an inquiry into it by a Central agency.
The TMC leader said, “It was a fruitful meeting. She took the matter seriously and assured us that she will look into it.”
