Trinidad offers to host Pravasi divas
Indian-origin Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Kamla Persad-Bissessar on Sunday expressed readiness to host the Pravasi Bhartiya Divas in her country, saying it would help in sharing “new understandings” and developing appreciation for the diaspora.
Ms Bissessar, the chief guest of the 10th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas here, said small countries like hers would benefit immensely from such events.
“I wish to sincerely urge that consideration be given to holding of Pravasi Bhartiya meet in the Caribbean and for which I pledge the support of my country,” she said in her address.
In doing so, Ms Bissessar said, “Countries can share new understandings, and develop appreciation for diaspora in their adopted homelands. “It will become a type of pilgrimage that combines tourism, education, education and business development.” Ms Bissessar will also visit the Shankara Group of Institutions at Kukas near here Monday to inaugurate the main building of the Shankara International School and attend the convocation ceremony of the Post Graduate Diploma in Managrement (PGDM) course.
Sant Kumar Chaudhary, chairman of the Shankara Group of Institutions said, “The prime minister will inaugurate the new campus and a state-of-art Sir CV Raman Auditorium. In addition, she will release the special edition of Technikon, a technical journal published by the group, during her visit to the campus.” He added that the visitng PM is likely to announce a socio-cultural tie-up.

PM praises Rajasthan governance

Prime Minister Manm-ohan Singh applauded the financial management of the Rajasthan government and said it is one of the leading states having impeccable record of financial parameters. He also expressed satisfaction over progress made in bringing minorities in the main stream.
Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot, at a meeting with the Prime Minister, reiterated the demand for a special state status considering its peculiar geographical conditions. He also demanded a special package for drinking water, bullet train service between Delhi-Jaipur, construction of Delhi-Jaipur expressway and increasing financial assistance for Jaipur Metro among others. He also requested Dr Singh for the approval of proposed `1,92,000 crores during the 2th Year Plan.
Mr Gehlot also informed the PM about hostels for minority girls and modernisation of madarsas.
Dr Singh addressed the meeting of the council of ministers and parliamentary secretaries, headed by the CM, at Raj Bhavan on Sunday.
