TRS vows fight on power tariff
Karimnagar: TRS will take up a huge agitation against the irregular power cuts and increase in power charges. Party Huzurabad MLA Eetela Rajender told to newsmen at Jammikunta on Monday that the government which had been squeezing people dry on the pretext of surcharge adjustments was however not bothering to supply power to them.
He noted that farmers were incurring heavy losses with the withering away of crops due to non-supply of even three hours of power and domestic consumers were reeling under long hours of darkness.
“The Congress government is putting farmers and common people to severe inconvenience with an aim of collecting `12,500 crore in the form of power surcharge. APTransco officials have been carrying out raids according to their whims, leaving not even Dalit colonies, and collecting thousands of rupees as fines,” he said.
Mr Rajender said Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy was following the footsteps of former CM N. Chandrababu Naidu and would meet the same fate.
Meanwhile, CPI activists and leaders held a protest in Karimnagar town holding lanterns demanding withdrawal of proposal to increase power tariff.
The party leaders alleged that Congress government had imposed a burden of `33,957 crore on the power consumers in the last three years.
At Akeenpur in Korutla mandal, angry farmers tried to attack APTransco assistant engineer and staged a rasta roko over power cuts.
