Two arrested for Gurgaon toll plaza attendant’s murder

Two men were arrested on Monday for the murder of a toll plaza employee here three days ago. Gurgaon police chief S.S. Deswal told reporters here that Vijayveer and Manjit Singh were tracked down after police searched extensively for a white Bolero car in the area.

“Around 41 teams were deployed at different villages around Gurgaon to search for a similar vehicle and to collect information regarding all the white Boleros registered in Gurgaon and in nearby areas. We came across nearly 350 registered white Bolero cars,” Deswal added.

Saying that the accused chose to open fire, Deswal further said: “The video clippings clearly showed that the toll attendant opened the gate before the accused opened fire. The accused could have moved but he chose to open fire at the attendant.” Meanwhile, police are still investigating if the weapon used to kill was licensed.

The car in which the accused were travelling did not belong to them but was registered in the name of a certain Ashok Kumar. The police official added that Manjit, re-visited the spot after 45 minutes, on the directions of Vijayveer, to know what happened. A newly-married 22-year-old toll plaza attendant, Umeshkant Pandey, was shot in the neck Friday night by men in a white Mahindra Bolero after they were asked to pay Rs 27 as toll.

The incident took place at Kheri Daula in south Gurgaon. Pandey belonged to a poor family from Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh. CCTV footage helped in tracking down the killers, a police officer here told IANS. "Both youths were drunk at the time of the incident," a police source said. The breakthrough occurred when a man came later to inquire if Pandey was alive. The CCTV cameras filmed the face. Other employees at the toll plaza became suspicious and tried to catch him but he escaped. But not for long.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
