Two arrested for trying to dupe 31 Nepal citizens
The City police on Thrusday claimed to have busted an international job racket with the arrest of two persons, including a Nepali, for allegedly trying to dupe 31 Nepal citizens on pretext of providing jobs in Afghanistan.
Acting on a tip off, a trap was laid and Abdul Kalam Ghaswala (35) of Nepal and Jameel Ahmed of Kolkata were arrested from near a hotel in Mumbai Central on Monday, the police said.
According to the police, the complainant Vishnukuwar Suman, a Nepali citizen who runs a tours and travels agency in neighbouring Navi Mumbai's CBD Belapur, came into contact with Jameel sometime back.
"Jameel told Suman that he has one friend Abdul who sends people to Afghanistan for jobs there. Abdul arranges labourers for US army there in Afghanistan and he charges Rs one lakh for providing visa to labourer, Jameel told the complainant. He also said the labourer would earn $700 per month," DCP Anil Kumbhare said.
"Believing him, Suman arranged 31 people living in Nepal for the job after they expressed their willingness to go to Afghanistan. Their passports were sent to Suman, who later handed over them to Jameel. After co-ordinating with Abdul, Jameel returned 10 work visa photocopies and asked Suman to pay Rs 10 lakh in advance," the police said.
Smelling a rat, Suman approached Afghanistan consulate to verify the visas when the officials there said the visas were fake. The issue was also taken before the police.
After the complaint by Suman, police laid a trap and nabbed the accused, police said adding the duo were remanded in police custody till December 27.
