Two foetuses found under beed flyover
Even as the state government is making claims of a widespread crackdown on female foeticide in Maharashtra, two female foetuses were found dumped under a flyover in Beed on Saturday. The Beed police took a woman into custody late on Saturday night for questioning in connection with the incident.
The police said that the foetuses were first seen by residents of the Barshinaka area in Beed, who called the Beed police station. “The foetuses are eight and five months old and were dumped under the Barshinaka flyover,” said Sambhajirao Kadam, sub-divisional police officer, Beed.
An officer with the Beed police said that nobody in the area saw the foetuses being dumped. The area around the flyover is usually deserted at night, and it is fairly easy for anyone to dump anything late at night or in the early hours of the morning, the officer claimed.
Mr Kadam confirmed that a woman had been picked up for questioning from the Dr Shivaji Sanap Hospital in Beed late on Saturday night, but declined to divulge further details.
