Two held for chasing Russian woman
New Delhi: Two persons, including a teenager, were apprehended in the city for allegedly chasing a young Russian woman and hurling abuses at her, police said today. The incident took place in Greater Kailash on Sunday at around 11:30 PM when the 34-year-old manager of a prominent night club in a Saket mall was returning to her home in Defence Colony. "We have apprehended two persons, which includes a teenager," a senior police official said.
According to the victim, the two men chased her in their car for about 30 minutes and hurled abuses at her. They allegedly told her to stop the car but she did not do so. However, the official said, she had to stop her car at a traffic signal in Greater Kailash when they again hurled abuses at her but she proceeded towards her home.
"The men followed her and she drove her car to a petrol pump and they brought the car inside from the opposite side. They again hurled abuses at her," the official said quoting the complainant. She then called police but language acted as a barrier after which she sought the help of the petrol pump owner who told police about her ordeal. A police team rushed to the spot and apprehended the two men, who claimed to be taxi drivers working 'overtime' that day. They denied the allegations levelled by the Russian woman, who is staying in the capital for the past 12 years.
Crime against women saw an increase in the capital last year with rape and molestation cases increasing to 484 and 585 respectively from 2009's figure of 459 and 532. Last year, it received 10,348 complaints and 9,880 complaints were addressed. Similarly, the 'Anti-Stalking Cell' received 41 calls last year.
