Two K’taka seers to mediate today
Shri Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji of Udupi and Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji of Sri Suttur Mutt could be set to play mediators in the face-off between yoga guru Baba Ramdev and the UPA-led government at the Centre. The two swamijis will be in Delhi on Tuesday to negotiate between the two sides.
“The situation is grim as both sides are angry and stubborn. But we want to ty and find a solution and bring a peaceful end to this whole affair,” Shri Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji told this newspaper from Kumbakonam on Monday, adding: “We have decided to go to Delhi tomorrow to try and do our best to solve the problem. A few other swamijis too may join us. Suttur Mutt swamiji and I have already informed law minister M. Veerappa Moily about our arrival in Delhi and he was very positive in his response. We will work on ways to solve the problem once we are there and also decide on who we need to meet there.”
The swamiji said the Centre would be asked to keep its promise and curtail corruption and not go around arresting sathyagrahis instead. Interestingly, he felt that there should be no more sathyagrahas and fasting by anybody. “There should not be any violence either. No sadhu-santh should have to experience another incident like that of Saturday night. The Union government should keep the promise it gave to Baba Ramdev,” he insisted. Asked about corruption in Karnataka, the swamiji replied he was against corruption in any part of the country.
