Two YSR Congress MLAs, one of Congress 'resign' for united Andhra Pradesh
Hyderabad: Amid reports that Congress leadership may take a decision in favour of separate Telangana, a ruling Congress MLA and two YSR Congress legislators from non-Telangana regions on Thursday said they have 'resigned' from their posts in support of the united Andhra Pradesh cause.
Congress MLA from Kamalapuram in Kadapa district G. Veerashiva Reddy, who showed his 'resignation letter' to mediapersons in Kadapa, said he is quitting in support of the united Andhra Pradesh cause. He said he would send his resignation letter to PCC President Botsa Satyanarayana.
The Congress high command appeared to be moving towards division of the State against the wishes of the people of Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra regions and also a large number of people in Telangana, said Veerashiva Reddy, who has also resigned from the primary membership of the party.
YSR Congress MLAs Balineni Srinivasa Reddy (Ongole) and Gurnath Reddy (Anantapur) also said they have resigned.
The moves by the MLAs came in the wake of reports that the Congress high command is likely to announce its decision in favour of separate Telangana State soon. The Congress Ministers from Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra met here on Wednesday and decided to visit Delhi to pursue the united Andhra Pradesh cause.
The Ministers, however, denied media reports they had threatened to quit to mount pressure on the party leadership.
The Congress Core Group had discussed the Telangana issue earlier this month and decided to refer the long-pending matter to the Congress Working Committee for a final view. The reports said the Congress Working Committee, the party's highest decision-making body, is likely to meet by this month-end.
