Uddhav undergoes angioplasty, is ‘fine’

Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray finally underwent an angioplasty on Friday at Lilavati Hospital. The procedure according to the doctors was “successful” and Mr Thackeray is said to be doing “perfectly fine”. Mr Thackeray arrived at the hospital at around 9 am and was soon taken in for the procedure.
He was diagnosed with three arterial blockages; this was confirmed after an angiography, which was performed on Monday at the same hospital. The Sena executive president was diagnosed with three arterial blockages, which were opened up by coronary stents. Dr Jalil Parkar, chest physician and one of the doctors on the panel for Mr Thackeray’s treatment, said, “He (Uddhav) is doing very well. The procedure lasted for approximately two-and-a-half hours. He will be under observation for about three to four days and he can get back to work after that.”
After the procedure was over, the team of doctors who had operated on Mr Thackeray stepped out and spoke to the media. Escorted by Sena men, Dr Samuel Matthews Kalarical said, “The surgery was successful and he is doing absolutely fine. He may be discharged by Sunday and he can be back at work on Monday.” In the midst of the briefing, a Sena member also mentioned that Mr Thackeray spoke to his father, Sena president Bal Thackeray, after the procedure.
Meanwhile, cousin Raj Thackeray with his wife and family had reached the hospital even before Mr Thackeray arrived and left after the procedure was completed. The hospital was guarded like a fortress with impregnable security. Leaders like Manohar Joshi, Mumbai mayor Sunil Prabhu and others paid a visit and almost all of Sena MLAs visited the hospital through the day.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
