UDF final Cabinet talks today
The Congress and its allies will wrap up their Cabinet berth discussions here on Tuesday, ahead of the swearing-in of the chief minister and ministers on May 18.
It was on May 18 five years ago that CPI(M) veteran V.S. Achuthanandan was sworn in as the chief minister. The baton was passed on to him by Mr Oommen Chandy, who was in office for less than two years.
History repeats as Mr Chandy takes over from Mr Achuthanandan, in a picture perfect role reversal.
The major irritant in the ministry making has been the Kerala Congress (M) insistence on getting three ministers.
In the end, it would get two ministers and possibly the post of Speaker. The line-up is Mr K.M. Mani and Mr P.J. Joseph. The frontrunner for Speaker post is Mr P.C. George, the sitting member from Poonjar.
But if the Congress refuses to part with the Speaker post, the choice would fall on the veteran from Irikkur, Mr K.C. Joseph.
After the swearing-in, Mr Chandy is expected to leave for Delhi, along with the State Congress president, Mr Ramesh Chennithala, with the list of Congress probables.
The rest of the ministers would be sworn in before May 25.
