UK lifts suspension of visa applications
Britain on Thursday lifted the temporary suspension on tier-four (general student) visa applications from students in north India.
It will come into immediate effect.
The British High Commission here said that on August 12, the UK Border Agency would further lift the suspension on the remaining courses below degree, with the exception of English language courses.
Also on August 12, the UK Border Agency would introduce an English language test requirement for tier-four (general student) visas worldwide.
Applicants who are studying courses below degree level, excluding foundation degrees and English language courses, would need to pass this test. The test must be taken with a UK Border Agency-approved provider before the applicant applies for a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from the education sponsor.
A foundation degree means a programme of study which leads to a qualification awarded by a UK higher education institution with degree awarding powers, which is at a minimum of level five on the revised National Qualifications Framework, or level eight on the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework.
Information about the English language tests and the list of test providers were available at: http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/aboutus/newsroom/?view=News&id=22573942
Tier-four (general student) visas were for people travelling to the UK for their post-16 years education.
