Ulfa calls for 12-day bandh against PM’s Assam visit

GUWAHATI

The anti-talks faction of outlawed Ulfa led by Paresh Baruah has called for a 12-hour Assam bandh on Monday to protest the proposed visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to campaign for his party in first phase of polling on April 4.

Accusing the Prime Minister of dividing the outfit in the name of peace-talks, convener of Ulfa’s central publicity wing Arunudoy Dehotia said, “The prime minister has failed to keep his written promise to discuss all the core issues for political solution of the Assam-India conflict.”
In a statement sent on email, the Ulfa also accused Prime Minister of acquiring a false residency certificate from Assam. It also slammed the Prime Minister charging him of hatching conspiracy to divide Assam and forcing the identity of Assamese people to extinction.
“Dr Singh has divided the Ulfa to destroy the organisation,” said the Ulfa while threatening to call similar bandh and protest whenever a central ministers or central leaders come to the state.
“Till the rights of the indigenous people is not established, such bandh calls will continue,” the outfit warned.
