Ulfa chief to cadre: Ignore jailed leaders
As the commander of “709 battalion” of Ulfa, Hira Sarnia has established contact with the security forces to join pro-talk faction of the outfit, the elusive Ulfa chief Paresh Baruah has directed its cadre to refrain from establishing any contacts with its jailed leaders besides restricting themselves inside the Burma camps.
Disclosing that anti-talk faction of Ulfa led by its commander in chief Paresh Baruah was carrying out damage control exercise in the wake of peace-initiative of its chairman Arbinda Rajkhowa, the security sources said that there have been attempt to recruit new cadres also.
Informing that a section of Ulfa rebels have intensified the extortion drive in anticipation that peace-talks may take away the opportunity of making money, security sources pointed out that a large number of business houses in upper Assam have been served with extortion notices.
Admitting that counter-insurgency operations of the security forces have slowed down, the security sources said that excessive debate on peace-talks have made the security forces complacent.
