Ulfa chief Rajkhowa released from jail
Arbinda Rajkhowa, chairman of outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom and one of India’s most wanted fugitives, was released from the central jail on Saturday. He was greeted by hundreds of slogan shouting supporters carrying flag of the banned organisation outside the jail. The supporters of Ulfa leaders were seen shouting slogans like — Ulfa Jindabad and Ulfa long live besides waving the outfit’s white and green flag with its red rising sun, even in the presence of senior police officials.
Soon after his release, the Ulfa chairman, escorted by his bodyguards, went to address a public rally at Sipajhar where he reiterated that the outfit was ready for unconditional peace talks but a formal decision would be taken once all jailed leaders are freed.
One by one six top jailed Ulfa leaders were released on bail. The first to be released on bail were Pradeep Gogoi and Mithinga Daimary. “We want that all the Ulfa leaders in Bangladesh should be rele-ased soon,” Mr Rajkhowa said adding if 30 years of armed struggle could not bring any solution to their problem, the security forces of India with all its might have also failed to finish Ulfa during the same period.
