Ulfa chief trying to shift stashed funds
If intercepts of security agencies are any indicator, the elusive Ulfa chief Paresh Baruah is trying to transfer a huge amount of money stashed somewhere outside Burma.
Disclosing that elusive Ulfa chief was entrenched in the Chinese border town of Ruili, Yunnan province, authoritative security sources told this newspaper that location of Ulfa chief was traced very recently as he was missing from the radar of the security agencies for quite some time.
About his attempt to transfer money, security sources said that they are already on job to translate the intercepts into action.
Pointing out that intelligence agencies in the northeast are now highly equipped to deal with modern days communication gadgets of ultras, security sources said that Ulfa chief was also found to have been arranging fund for his family members in Bangladesh.
Informing that movement of Ulfa rebels in Burma has also come down, security sources however clarified that separatist outfits holed up inside Burma has restricted the movement of its cadres following heavy rain which makes the hilltracks dangerous for movement.
Security sources pointed out that apart from weather, the inter-factional clash between NSCN (IM) and NSCN (K) was equally responsible for restricting the movement of the Ulfa cadres from Burma, as they are not keen on getting caught in the clashes.
Admitting that factional clashes between two factions of NSCN in Tirap and Changlang districts of Arunachal Pradesh was turning out to be an area of concern for the security forces, security sources said that home ministry was also working out strategy for containing the factional clashes between Naga rebels besides the movement of ultras from Burma by augmenting the deployment of CRPF battalions in bordering districts of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
The idea is that if CRPF battalions are located strategically, they may chase ultras even after they cross over to the border of a state.
