Ulfa gets weapons from China: Intel

Despite repeated concerns expressed by New Delhi over militant groups, particularly in the Northeast, getting weapons from China the trend continues to be on the upswing. In fact, a recent report prepared by an external intelligence agency reveals that top Ulfa commander Paresh Baruah received a massive consignment of arms and ammunition, worth $25 lakh from China as recently as May.
The report submitted to the highest quarters in the government and accessed by this newspaper reveals that, “1,600 pieces of arms and ammunition, including AK-47 rifles, rocket launchers, light machine guns and 8 lakh rounds of ammunition” were sent to Baruah.
The Indian intelligence agencies are now trying to ascertain the extent to which the Chinese authorities were involved in this exercise. The weapons consignment was loaded from the “south Chinese port of Beihei which is located near Vietnam”. It was then brought to the territory of Bangladesh near the Moheshkhali Island. Incidentally, through the sea route Moheshkhali Island is close to Cox Bazar where Ulfa is said to have a base.

Chinese paint pla star inside india territory
Leh, Sept. 25: Chinese troops had painted rocks with “red star” — insignia of People’s Liberation Army — during their recent incursion into Indian territory in Chumar division of Nyoma sector, about 300 km from here, during which they had destroyed some tents of grazers and unused army bunkers, according to a report.
A report of the Jammu and Kashmir government and that of the Central security agencies, sent to the ministry of home affairs, said two Chinese helicopters had entered one-and-a-half km into Indian airspace on August 25 and made a landing after a dozen PLA troops had deplaned and dismantled the bunkers and tents. The helicopters had landed at Chumar in Chingthang area of Tehsil Nyoma, northeast of Leh in J&K.
According to the reports, the Chinese troops left some cigarette packets and also painted the “red star” bearing the Chinese characters for “Eight One”, a move aimed at displaying that the area belonged to them. — PTI

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
