Under attack, Cong hits out at ‘coffin chor’ BJP

Under attack for remaining silent on the issue of corruption at the AICC meeting, the Congress on Wednesday hit back at the BJP by accusing it as a party of “coffin chor”.
Countering the allegations levelled against the top party leaders by the BJP accusing them to be silent on the issue corruption, AICC spokesperson Manish Tewari said, “The saffron party, among others, can more specifically be described in three expressions — coffin chor, descendants of Bangaru Lakshman and offering hospitality to terrorists. They have no right to teach us lesson, as to how confront the issue of corruption.”

Mr Tewari rather asked the BJP to introspect its own track record in cases relating corruption involving its own men. While commenting on BJP, he referred to the allegations of purchase of substandard coffins for Kargil martyrs during NDA rule, to the BJP president who was caught on camera accepting cash and a senior NDA minister escorting terrorists to Kandahar to ensure the release of passengers of a hijacked Indian Airlines plane.
Moreover, Mr Tewari said, Congress president Sonia Gandhi rather gave a “clear message” to partymen to follow the principles of patience, simplicity and faith.
“What do these words mean,” he asked, adding that the very speech of the party chief took the wind out of the Opposition charges.
Facing a barrage of questions on the party “remaining silent” on charges of corruption at the Centre and in Maharashtra, Mr Tewari said, “I would like to draw your attention to the Congress President’s speech where she asks partymen to follow the principles of patience, simplicity and faith in the tasks they undertake.”
The AICC spokesperson also mentioned that Mrs Gandhi’s speech was understood in the wrong context by the media. “The Congress president has given a clear message to the AICC representatives and through them to Congress workers on how she expects them to perform their duties,” he added.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
