Unique I-cards must mention caste: Sharad
Questioning the government’s decision to refer the issue of caste-based Census to yet-to-be formed Group of Ministers (GoM), JD(U) president Sharad Yadav claimed that the move is just a “delaying tactic”. He, however, further enhanced the scope of his demand by asking that the proposed Unique Identity Cards should also mention the caste of citizens.
Briefing media persons here at party office, Mr Yadav said, “The Union Cabinet has not yet taken a decision on caste census as promised by the PM in the Lok Sabha. The delay in taking the decision is damaging, because census is already on. There is little or no time, yet the Cabinet has referred the issue to a GoM (to be formed for the purpose), which seems to be a delaying tactic,” he told reporters here.
Mr Yadav reminded the PM that he had promised to the House that his government would shortly take a view on the issue.
