Unrest paper: Valley teacher held
The police here on Friday arrested a lecturer of a government college for allegedly setting a paper filled with questions related to the recent civil unrest in Kashmir Valley which claimed more than 100 lives, mainly in police firings. One of the questions asked in the paper was if the students think the stone-pelters were the real heroes of Kashmir.
Meanwhile, the riot police swung bamboo sticks and rifle-butts and also fired teargas canisters to break up a series of protest demonstrations in Srinagar on Friday and arrested several separatist leaders and activists or placed them under house arrest during or prior to the protests held to mark the World Human Rights Day.
The police said that Noor Ahmed Butt, the lecturer at Srinagar’s government-run Gandhi Memorial College was arrested for setting the “controversial” question paper.
A case under Section 3 of the Unlawful Activities Act and Section 153 of the Crpc was earlier registered by the Hazratbal police against the lecturer who has been lodged at Fateh Kadal Police Station here.
On Wednesday, the students of BSc 1st Year in paragraph writing of English paper were asked to discuss “Are the stone pelters real heroes? The students were also asked to translate an Urdu paragraph, “Id in Curfew”.
Similarly, the students of BA 1st Year in their English paper were asked to translate a paragraph from Urdu to English about the situation witnessed in Kashmir since June 11, in which the politicians including those in the government were accused of turning a blind eye on the miseries of the people. It was also laden with allegations of human rights violations by security forces.
