UPA misusing CBI for political gains: Sushma
Angry over the CBI summoning a Gujarat minister who happens to be chief minister Narendra Modi’s close aide, Ms Swaraj lashed out at the government for “unashamedly misusing” the CBI for political purposes. When asked why her party refused to attend the lunch, she said, “The atmosphere had become so vitiated that
it would not appear well to go and have lunch with him.” Mr Arun Jaitley said the entire investigation in the Sohrabuddin encounter case was “motivated with a political agenda in mind and was concocted.”
The Congress, meanwhile, hit back at the BJP and accusing it of fielding its senior leaders to influence and subvert the Supreme Court-initiated ongoing investigations to create an “arc of immunity” for Mr Shah and possibly Mr Modi.
Congress spokesperson, Mr Abhishek Singhvi said “the BJP’s action is unheard of, indefensible, illegal and unconstitutional.” He added that BJP’s action indicates that the party has “scaled new heights of improper conduct”. Mr Singhvi said the BJP which calls it a responsible party has rejected the spirit of constructive cooperation extended by Prime Minister to ensure smooth conduct of Parliament. He further said the Gujarat CM appeared to have pressurised senior BJP leaders to prevent and obstruct the investigation.
