‘Uphold judicial credibility’
Chief Justice of India P. Sathasivam here on Saturday said that judiciary in India is the most respectable institution but in recent times there has been steady decline, which must be contained so that the high esteem and faith that common people have on it are not eroded.
Justice Sathasivam who was here on Saturday to inaugurate the additional building of Gauhati high court said: “Soon after assuming office, I have written to all chief justices of state high courts regarding pendency of cases directing them to identify the oldest along with the old cases, particularly those related to women and juveniles and give priority to these cases.”
Asking the judiciary to uphold its credibility by ensuring easy access of the common people to court as well as early dispensation of justice, the CJI said: “Both bar and bench have a vital role to ensure that.”
