US nuclear lab looks for research tie-ups with India
Mumbai: Representatives from one of the leading defence laboratory of United States, Idaho National Laboratory (INL) are on a three-day visit to the city to explore the possibilities of long-term collaborative research programmes on nuclear energy and engineering with the Indian institutions.
"They are exploring possibilities of long-term collaborative research in nuclear sciences and engineering. They are also here on an information gathering mission as to what the Indian scientists and engineers are doing to arrive at any possible collaboration," scientists from IIT Bombay said.
"This is a very preliminary meeting," they said.
Representatives from INL led by its director John Grossenbacher (Director INL) interacted with scientists from all IITs and other Indian universities and Department of Atomic Energy's Homi Bhabha Nuclear Institute at IIT Bombay campus today.
Grossenbacher also delivered an institute colloquium, titled 'Structure of Nuclear Energy R&D in the USA'.
According to the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), tomorrow Grossenbacher and his team will visit the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) and the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB).
On February 11, they will also meet the Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission Dr. Srikumar Banerjee and Chairman and Managing Director of Nuclear Power Corporation of India Dr S. K. Jain at the DAE's headquarters in south Mumbai.
