Use of red beacon reflection of Raj: SC
The Supreme Court on Monday once again expressed its displeasure over the “misuse” of the red beacon and sirens, questioning why these facilities are given to ministers, bureaucrats and politicians when only Constitutional authorities should be entitled to them.
Onserving that the use of the red beacon was a “reflection of British Raj”, a bench of justices G.S. Singhvi and V. Gopala Gowda lauded finance minister P. Chidambaram who, as the Union home minister, had refused to use a red beacon on his official vehicle.
“It is so paradoxical. P. Chidambram, who was the home minister said he did not need escort and siren for his vehicle. It was the functional requirement of home minister but he said he did not need anything,” the bench said.
