Uttar Pradesh offers job to injured Arunima
Almost seven days after sportswoman Arunima Sinha alias Sonu lost her leg upon being thrown off a train by robbers, the Uttar Pradesh government on Monday offered her a job. "We offered her a job.I told her that she can get the job either in the sports directorate or at the sports college.
It is up to her to decide," state sports minister Ayodhya Prasad Pal told reporters here after meeting her at the Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University (CSMMU). "Her condition is improving. Our officials are constantly in touch with Arunima's family. We would provide all possible help to the injured sportswoman," he added. Pal's visit assumes significance ahead of the union sports minister Ajay Maken's proposed visit to the CSMMU to meet the sportswoman later in the day.
Sinha on Sunday underwent another surgery. "The second surgery was necessitated as Arunima's wounds developed severe infection, which could have led to bigger complications," surgeon Vineet Sharma at what was formerly known as the King George's Medical College (KGMC) told IANS. "Our main objective is to save her left knee so that a simpler artificial limb could be fitted," he said. She was shifted from the Bareilly District Hospital to the orthopaedics department of Lucknow's famous KGMC (upgraded as Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University) on Saturday to ensure expert management of her wounds.
Sinha was pushed out of the general compartment of Padmawati Express near Bareilly April 11 for resisting a chain-snatching attempt by some hoodlums while travelling from Lucknow to Delhi. She lost her left leg when it came under the wheels of another train passing on the parallel rail track. Railway police carried her to the local district hospital where she lay injured, traumatised and unconscious until on Wednesday morning.
