Varun set to wed Bengali designer in a few months
Wedding bells will finally ring for the 30-year-old BJP Lok Sabha MP Varun Gandhi. The BJP’s youth icon will tie the knot with a Delhi-based Bengali graphic designer, Yamini Roy Chowdhury, 30. The wedding is expected in early 2011. Sources close to Varun said that after Jawaharlal Nehru, Varun would be first one in the Gandhi family to marry a brahmin. His father married a Sikh, his uncle an Italian and his grandmother a Parsi.
Despite their strained relations, Varun’s mother Maneka plans to invite her sister-in-law Sonia Gandhi as well as Priyanka and Rahul Gandhi. In 1997, while Maneka had not attended Priyanka’s wedding, Varun, then in his teens, was present.
Yamini, who is from Santiniketan in West Bengal, graduated from Delhi’s St. Stephen’s Colle-ge. She then studied fashion designing at the Sorborne in Paris. Varun met Yamini in New York a few years back and they have been “going around since then”. Yamini has her own graphic designing firm in New Delhi. With Varun busy rejuvenating saffron forces in UP, his mother is the one busy with the wedding preparations. Sources said she is on a shopping spree for both bride and groom.
