Vedike denies involvement in homestay attack
Hindu Janajagarana Vedike on Sunday denied that its activists were behind the attack on girls and boys at a homestay here and alleged that residents of the area were behind it.
"Residents of the area are responsible for carrying out the attack. HJV is unnecessarily being dragged into the controversy. None of the assaulters wore headbands or flaunted any flag claiming allegiance to the Vedike," HJV convenor Jagadish Karanth told reporters here.
"No victim had filed a complaint in the case, which clearly shows their guilt," he said, demanding that the district administration initiate action to curb 'such immoral activities'.
The government and police should keep a check on spas, resorts, pubs and home stays, he said. He said homestay and resort officials should ask customers to produce photo identity cards and install CCTVs.
Earlier, Youth Congress members staged a protest over the incident and demanded the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister R. Ashok. They were arrested for violating prohibitory orders.
Eight persons have been arrested in connection with the attack, allegedly carried out by HJV activists in an act of 'moral' policing.
Suspected activists of Hindu Jagarane Vedike allegedly attacked the homestay on Saturday night alleging that it was a rave party at the homestay where illegal activities were going on.
