Venue for Modi rally ‘unavailable’
The date for Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi’s rally in Kanpur may have been finalised for October 19 but the venue for the rally continues to pose a major problem for the organisers.
The rally is expected to attract a crowd of over 2 lakh from Kanpur and Bundelkhand regions.
The BJP had initially applied for permission to hold the Kanpur rally on the railway ground but the authorities promptly refused permission without assigning any reason.
The Kanpur administration then refused permission for holding the rally at the historic Phoolbagh ground on the pretext that it was already booked for some event. Similarly, a plea to hold the rally at Moti Jheel has also been turned down.
BJP spokesman Manoj Misra said that after seeing the huge turnout at Mr Modi’s rallies in Bhopal and Delhi, the Congress and the SP have joined hands to prevent him from holding rallies in UP.
“The governments will have to face the consequences if they try to stall the rallies. We will hold our rallies in the fields of farmers if they continue to deny us permission,” he said.
