Vice-Presidential election begins, Ansari appears set to win
Polling began for election of the 13th Vice-President of the country on Tuesday in which incumbent and ruling UPA candidate Hamid Ansari is facing NDA's Jaswant Singh.
Dr. Hamid Ansari appears set to win the election against his rival, the NDA backed Jaswant Singh.
The voting is taking place in the Parliament House. It began at 10:00am and will continue till 5:00pm.
The counting of votes will take place at 6:00pm.
Ansari has the support of the Congress, Samajwadi Party (SP), Bahuja Samaj Party (BSP), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), CPM, National Conference and several others.
The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Odisha has announced that it would abstain from voting in the Vice-Presidential election.
Jaswant Singh, who has the committed support of the BJP, Janata Dal-United, Shiv Sena, Akali Dal and several other smaller parties, on Monday sought the support of Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) chief J. Jayalalithaa for the election.
