Victim expresses desire to watch movies

The 23-year-old victim of the brutal gangrape on Saturday smiled for the first time and expressed a desire to watch movies and listen to songs at the Intensive Care Unit of the Safdarjung hospital and she was given apple juice. The psychiatrists at the Safdarjung hospital, who conducted her first psychological assessment on the day, said that despite the inhuman atrocities against her the girl was “psychologically totally stable” and she was “optimistic of her future.”
The girl who has lost her intestine and who is jaundiced and struggling with the possible spread of infection is still fighting hard for her life. However, her brave heart and strong will power has instilled hopes in the minds of the medical team and the family members attending her.
“She is very brave heart and optimistic. There is no sign of depression on her. She even smiled during our interaction with her,” said Kuldeep Kumar, senior psychiatrist at the Safdarjung Hospital.
Speaking to this newspaper, the girl’s younger brother said that he had also seen her smiling on the day when he had a chat with her. “Deedi (elder sister) asked about the time. I tied my watch on her wrist. She also wanted to change her dress. I asked whether she wanted to watch movies or listen to songs. She smiled and said yes. I am going to ask the doctor whether I can get a laptop or something to fulfil this,” he said.
The medical team asserted that she was future oriented and kept on worrying about the job and internship interviews currently lined up for her after having completed her course in paramedical.
At a press briefing here, Medical Superintend of the Hospital BD Athani said that the girl was more alert and more stable on the sixth day after the incident. The count of her White Blood Cells had gone upto 2,600, which is better than of the previous day’s count of 1,500. However, her platelets have been lower than the previous day and the bilirubin level had gone up from 5.1 of the previous day to 5.9 on Saturday.
She has been off the ventilator now and can communicate by speaking. One of the doctors also said that her biological functioning is also normal as of Saturday.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
