His voice choked over the phone as he began talking about his “Didi”, the 23-year-old woman who was brutally gangraped by six men in a moving bus in south Delhi on the night of December 16. His “Didi” and her friend were supposed to return home by 8 pm.
“When Didi and her friend did not turn up by 8 pm we started calling them up. But both mobiles were not reachable,” he said about that terrible night.
“At 11 pm Papa got a call from the police who informed him that Didi had met with an accident. What happened was beyond our imagination,” recalled the 20-year-old brother.
“It was only in the hospital that my father saw her for the first time after the incident,” he said.
The girl, who was the eldest sibling in the family, began crying when she saw her father.
“‘Papa I did nothing wrong’” was the first sentence she uttered when her father met her in the ICU, the brother said.

Karunanidhi says Stalin is his successor
Age Correspondent
Chennai, Jan. 3
Putting to rest any lingering doubt on who will succeed him as DMK chief, party president M. Karunanidhi on Thursday said that after him his younger son M.K. Stalin, the party treasurer, will continue his battle for the uplift of dalits and protection of social justice.
“I will work for the uplift of dalits till my last breath. And the question arises, after me who? The answer is Stalin, who is seated here with me”, Mr Karunanidhi said at a function at the party headquarters to admit PMK Vellore west district secretary Samuel Chellapandian into the DMK. The statement was greeted with loud cheers.
This new declaration is certain to raise friction with Mr Karunanidhi’s older son M.K. Alagiri, a Union minister.
