Vijayashanti,Jagga are at fault: EC
New Delhi, July 9: The Election Commission has censured the Telangana Rashtra Samiti MP and former actor, Ms Vijayashanti, and the Congress MLA, Mr T. Jayaprakash Reddy, known as Jagga Reddy, for violation of model code of conduct.
Ms Vijayashanti had created a stir last week by asking the TRS workers to chop up those who opposed a separate state. “Telangana ku addoste, addanga narikestam, was the controversial one-liner which she uttered. In response, the Congress MLA had threatened to attack TRS workers.
Taking a serious note of Ms Vijayashanti’s comment, the EC issued her a showcause notice on July 2, but in her reply submitted two days later, she flatly denied having made the controversial statement.
However, the EC was not satisfied since it had seen the video clipping of the meeting in which she could be heard saying the words. The EC considered this that it is a clear violation of the model code of conduct and censured her for the remark.
On the other hand, Mr Jayaprakash Reddy, who was also issued a showcause notice, did not deny the charge and the EC censured him too while asking him to maintain the standards of campaigning.
