Villagers raise slogans against Rahul
Unhappy over not being able to get an audience with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, local residents of two villages here raised slogans before a Munshiganj guest house where the Amethi MP has been putting up.
Braving heavy rains, residents of Chitkapur and Radheypur villages made a beeline for a meeting with Rahul on the second day of his visit to his constituency to hand over their applications requesting for handpumps, medical treatment, education and roads among others.
A delegation of some 35 to 40 people, led by village head Girish chand Misra and former pradhan Mumtaz Khan, wanted to meet their leader in connection with the long-pending demand for an overbridge near Amethi railway station and raised anti-Rahul slogans when denied entry immediately.
Following mediation by local Congress leaders and administrative officials, they were, however, taken inside to meet Rahul and were given an assurance that the issues would be taken up soon.
According to sources, Rahul also questioned his staff as to why the project has not yet been taken up.
Another delegation of farmers whose land is likely to be acquired for 40 kms long Jafrabad-Musafirkhana by-pass also met Rahul and handed over a memorandum, the sources said, adding, they were told that whatever was right would be done.
