‘Vindicated’ Guvernor H R Bharadwaj looks to stir pot
Will the tide turn against CM B.S. Yeddyurappa again?
This question troubled BJP leaders in New Delhi and the city at a time when they were on the verge of wooing 11 rebel legislators a day after the SC restored their membership.
Reason: Governor Hans Raj Bhardwaj, who has often locked horns with BSY and embarrassed the leader with his remarks, called on PM Dr Manmohan Singh ostensibly to discuss the verdict of the apex court.
Soon after his meeting with Dr Singh, Mr Bhardwaj hinted at some action on his return to Bengaluru on Sunday. He was happy that the apex court verdict had vindicated his stand that the floor test should be taken on the respective strength of the Assembly.
“I had advised a floor test (in October). It should be taken on the respective strength of the party without bringing them down. The BJP government resorted to exactly the opposite,” Mr Bhardwaj said.
In the wake of such statements, BJP leaders suspect that he would stir up trouble.
Their fears have been accentuated by the fact that Congress leaders will call on Mr. Bhardwaj with a petition for “appropriate” action against Speaker K.G. Bopaiah and BSY in view of stinging remarks made by the apex court, a move which would provide an opportunity to the Governor to initiate steps against the state government.
