VIPs, kin throng hospital

VIPs, cricketers, family members, relatives, friends and well-wishers, all thronged the hospital after news of the motorbike accident involving Ayazuddin, son of former cricket skipper Azharuddin, and his cousin Ajmal, spread on Sunday morning. Ayaz is critically injured while Ajmal died of his injuries.
Ayaz’s mother Naureen arrived at the hospital on Sunday evening after she was informed about the accident. So did Sangeeta Bijlani, Azharuddin’s second wife, who came to the hospital around 6 pm.
A number of politicians and celebrities visited the hospital, including chief minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, police commissioner A.K. Khan, MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi, MPs Lagadapati Rajgopal, G. Vivekanand and Anjan Kumar Yadav, cricketers Yusuf Pathan and V.V.S. Laxman, Union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and former minister Mohammed Ali Shabir.
The family members of the youngsters were in tears, as hundreds of well wishers thronged the hospital. Ajmal’s father Khaleeq-ur-Rehman broke down when he heard the news of his son’s death. “I am still unable to believe that this accident took place,” he said.
MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi said, “We are sad about the incident and we pray he gets better and recovers soon.”
“We were shocked when we came to know about the accident. Now, Ayaz is in a critical condition and we pray he recovers soon,” said MP G. Vivekanand.
C. Mihir, a college friend of Ayaz, said, “Ayaz was a humble friend, a rare individual. We have been praying that he gets well soon.” Another friend, Gokhale, said, “We were shocked after hearing about the incident and all our friends called each other and we rushed to the hospital.” Imran Saberi and Ali Saberi, childhood friends of Ajmal, said, “We spoke to Ajmal on Saturday night, and he was telling us that he was going for a ride on the OOR road with Ayaz.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
