Vivek Sahai new Railway Board chief
Vivek Sahai is the new chairman of the Railway Board. Mr Sahai, who was the member (traffic) for the last five months, takes over from S.S. Khurana who retired on Monday.
An IRTS officer of the 1973 batch, Mr Sahai has held several key posts in the Indian Railways prior to his elevation as the chairman, Railway Board. He was general manager, Northern Railway, before he was appointed member (traffic).
Having worked as the divisional railway manager of the Mumbai division of the railways, he had also gained extensive experience in suburban train operations in Mumbai. Mr Sahai holds a post-graduate degree in physics from Allahabad University. He has been trained on US Rail Roads and SNCF (French Railways) under a UNDP Project in 1989. He was also part of an Indian delegation which was sent to study the privatisation of British Railways in 1996. He also participated in advanced leadership programme held at Stern Business School, New York.
