Vote for Left, appeals Somnath
He had summarily been expelled for not following the diktat of the Red Book, nevertheless former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee’s love for the Lefts has not diminished yet.
Besides giving his nod and breaking his stint of political retirement to participate in a poll campaigning for state housing minister Gautam Deb, Mr Chatterjee on Wednesday came forward in support of the Left Front candidates as the first signatory in a campaign leaflet distributed in Bolpur.
It is from this very place where he used to contest in the Lok Sabha polls before he was expelled from the party.
The former leader of the Marxist party signed the leaflet along with 61 others, including his wife Renu Chatterjee. The one-and-a-half page leaflet titled Give your verdict to form the eighth Left Front government for peace, stability and development sings a paean to the achievements of the Left Front government.
It has showcased land reforms, greater irrigational facilities and soft agricultural loans among the successes of the 34-year-old Left Front government and also mentioned the development activities in improving roads, power and health facilities.
