VS has gone off handle: Chandy
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Wednesday hit out at V.S. Achuthanandan saying that the Opposition Leader had gone off the handle and stooped to the level of uttering anything and everything without control.
He was replying to a question on Achuthanandan’s recent remarks against his family. “When they fail to attract the people through their programmes and policies, they resort to protests and agitations. This happens when one loses all confidence in oneself and loses the balance itself,’’ he said.
Referring to the solar fraud, he said the Opposition allegations in the Assembly had also been exposed. “They raised several allegations. But were they able to prove at least one? Even the so-called letter from my office has been found to be fake. The letter is written to the principal secretary to Government of India, a post which does not exist. Moreover, the CM writes letters to the ministers concerned and not to the officials directly.’’
He said the Opposition was raising baseless allegations and running away from discussion as they don’t have any reply to our questions. Chandy said the government was not in a hurry to take action on the report submitted against Achuthanandan’s son V. A. Arun Kumar. “The action has to be taken by the department concerned,’’ he said.
On Achuthanandan’s remarks on P. K. Kunhalikutty’s former secretary Abbas Sait’s death, he said that the Opposition Leader had reached a stage when he said “anything and everything’’ and it was unfortunate. When asked whether he would be vigilant while choosing his staff in the light of Jikkumon Jacob’s resignation, he said, “one learns from the experiences.’’
CM’s letterhead forged from thank-you note
A letter of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy was forged by the multi-crore solar scam accused Biju Radhakrishnan to promote his fraudulent business. The CM had sent Biju a letter thanking him for the contribution to the CM’s distress relief fund. The forged letter was prepared using the original letter head. But the cheque given by the accused as contribution had bounced.
P.P. Paul alias Frenny of GrafX computer centre at Thammanam in Kochi, who had forged the letter as per Biju’s request, was arrested on Monday. A copy of the forged letter that was presented by the SIT at a local court on Tuesday even carried a signature of the CM. The letter addressed to the Principal Secretary, ministry of new and renewable energy, recommended that the Thiruvananthapuram-based Poweron Energy System may be considered for the Centre’s solar schemes as a distributor of Swiss Solar Technologies.
Chandy had maligned my family: Achuthanandan
Malappuram: Opposition leader V.S. Achuthanandan has said that chief minister Oommen Chandy had raised baseless charges in writing against his family when the latter was the opposition leader. Achuthanandan told reporters here on Wednesday that he in his capacity as the then CM was even ready to conduct an inquiry by an officer proposed by Chandy into the allegations.
“The former son-in-law of the Chief Minister, in an affidavit in the court, had pointed out close links between Salim Raj and some members of Chandy’s family. The issue was raised by me to highlight the fact that the relation between Chandy and Salim Raj was not one between a gunman and the CM. I have not made any personal allegations against the members of the CM’s family,’’ he said.
“I had not even raised this allegation, when Chandy during his tenure as opposition leader had raised allegations against my family. But, the issue was being raised now to highlight the influence of Salim Raj over the CM.
If the issue could not be raised by an opposition leader inside the Assembly, will an ordinary citizen have the courage to give statements on the relationship between the CMand the gunman in the solar panel fraud in front of a cop?, he asked.
Chandy, who shied away from taking action against Salim Raj, has at last suspended him, vindicating his stand on the solar panel issue, Achuthanandan said. The arrest of Bangalore-based industrialist Kuruvilla on charges of black money was a warning to all those who may come up with allegations against the CM in the solar panel fraud. He also alleged that IUML in the state was working like a parallel government. This was clear from the recent order issued for making child marriage legal, he said.
