VVIP copter scam: India gets crucial documents from Italy
India has received a fresh set of crucial documents from Italy in connection with `3,600 crore VVIP helicopter deal which is likely to help CBI in expediting the probe into the bribery scam allegedly involving the then Indian Air Force Chief S.P. Tyagi.
Sources in the CBI said a DIG Mahipal Yadav returned on Wednesday from Milan where the trial against the then executives of Finmeccanica and AgustaWestland are being prosecuted by the Italian authorities for alleged international corruption. India is being represented as civil party in the case by defence ministry.
The sources said Central Bureau of Investigation was expecting to get copies of transcripts of phone conversations of middlemen which were intercepted by the Italian agencies but it may take some time because of court’s procedural issues.

Cong holds farmer rally

After pushing the ruling BJD in Orissa into the wall on issues like multi-crore mining scams and diversion of Central government public distribution scheme rice, the Congress in Orissa on Wednesday opened another front to nail the Naveen Patnaik government by holding a huge farmers’ rally here.
Almost all the senior leaders of state Congress unit, in a rare show up unit, participated in the rally organised under the leadership of Kalhandi Lok Sabha member Bhakta Charan Das.
Former chief minister Giridhar Gamang, Union minister Srikant Jena, former PCC president Sarat Patnaik, present PCC chief Jayadev Jena and senior leaders like Chandra Sekhar Sahoo, Bhipinder Singh, Jagannath Patnaik and Prasad Harichandan were among those present in the rally.

Badal: Rout UPA govt

Punjab chief minister Singh Badal on Wednesday exhorted the people to rout the Congress-led UPA government in coming Lok Sabha polls thereby paving way for the formation of NDA government at the centre, to fulfill the dreams of the freedom fighters who had laid down their life for the sake of independence.
Addressing a gathering at Sangrur district the chief minister categorically said that the successive Congress governments at the Centre have failed to realise the dreams of our national heroes who had laid down their life for throwing away the yoke of foreign imperialism.

Harassed by school teachers, teenage girl commits suicide
Jaipur, July 31: A teenage girl allegedly committed suicide in Nagaur district after being insulted and harassed by the principal and two other teachers of her school.
The 15-year-old, who was studying in the government higher secondary school in Kuchaman town, ended life by jumping into a well last night, said police officer Suresh Soni, who is investigating the case.
In her suicide note, she alleged that the principal and two teachers of the school had insluted and harassed her, Soni said.
A case has been registered in this regard, but no one has so far been questioned, he said.
